Full Description
In 1960 excavations were undertaken in the yard of the former Simon Langton School by The Canterbuy Excavation Committee. The site was coded CXXXI and CXXXIIS.The site lay within the precincts of the pre-Reformation Austin Friary, but few remains of this period were found. The most important discoveries were those of a Roman street and of six Anglo-Saxon huts of the sixth and seventh centuries which lay in the demolished remains of a Roman building lying NW of the street. A group of late 3rd century coins were discovered within the site.
