Full Description

The Laughing Water Restaurant and Tea Rooms
The history of The Inn on the Lake hotel and surrounding area came to life in the 1930’s. Originally owned by the Darnely family, the building incorporated a boating lake and swimming pool, and was leased on various occasions, throughout the 30’s and 40’s. During this time, it was known at ‘The Laughing Water Restaurant and Tea Rooms’. During World War 2, the building and land’s role in history changed forever, by playing a key role in local battles. Playing host to many crew from RAF Gravesend, the land around Thong Lane would serve the country’s war heroes. During the Battle of Britain, and operating under RAF Fighter Command, the airfield nearby became the first to put the P-51 Mustang III into operation. After the war, this wooden building served travellers and guests alike, until it was sadly met with its demise, in a fire. The current owners took over in 1990, creating The Inn On The Lake Hotel, a 78 bedroom, 3 star hotel. Now comprising of a large, lakeside restaurant with panoramic views of the largest of our 3 lakes and the perimeter of Shorne Country Park, The Inn On The Lake also comes with a romantic wooden arbour, licensed for wedding ceremonies at the water edge.
