Full Description

A archaeological watching and recording brief was undertaken in 2011 in the White Hart Inn garden as part of a planning application. A potential building or outhouse was observed in trenches 1-4 and was observed by a ground surface, there were also cuts for beams which indicate a structure was there. A brick built cistern or well was also observed in trench 7 constructed from unfrogged red stock bricks and with a diameter of 0.6m. There was a small number of finds recovered comprising of pottery, ceramic tile fragments, clay tobaccco pipe and animal bone. Two fragments of slag and iron nail were collected. The majority of these finds were limited to the late seventeenth to the late nineteenth century AD meaning that the structures are most likely Post-Medieval. (1)
