Full Description

An archaeological assessment including a walk over survey took place at The Grove, Readleaf estate in 2013. A hollow way was observed, it was a routeway which formed part of the road from Penhurst to Chiddingstone Causeway, the route is aligned north-west to south easat and pre-dates the Grove as a woodland meaning it is probably Medieval. The Medieval Parish boundary also runs through the woods through the middle from east to west. In one area no earthworks can be seen however it is defined on OS maps. In other areas the boundary is marked by a bank and ditch, the bank is abou 3m wide and 0.25m high. (1)
