Full Description

An excavation took place at Pinden Quarry in 2011. A number of late Bronze Age features and finds were identified. The most significant features on the site were a group of small, shallow pits, at least 16 of which contained deposits of cremated human remains. The pits can be divided into 4 groups, a group of 23 containing 13 cremated remains followed a large ditch. The second group consisted of 5 pits, 3 contained cremated remains. The third group consisted of 4 pits, none contained cremated remains. The fourth froup consists of four pits. Late Bronze Age pottery was also recovered. Elsewhere on the site, three scattered features produced single sherds of late Bronze Age pottery which might be related to a fifth group of pits. (1)
