A keyhole excavation in the form of a 1m x 1m test pit was undertaken at No 1 Stephens Close as part of an ongoing series of investigations by Faverhsam Society Archaeological Research Group entitled "The Davington Mysteries". It uncovered no archaeological features but the contexts excavated did result in various residual finds being recovered ranging in date from the Iron Age to the Modern Day.

The finds are termed residual as, like in other excavations at Stephens Close (see Monument records beginning TR 06 SW 33-) the stratigrpahy is incredibly disturbed (the reports suggest from the construction of the houses of Stephens Close and more recent groundwork by the residents as well as the building and demolition of Davington Court. Thus it is not uncommon to recover finds of Mesolithic and modern date from the same context.

Indeed the contexts excavated in this test pit resulted in pottery from the Iron Age to Modern periods as well as Mesolithic flint artefacts as well as a substantial quantity of modern (possibly post medieval) rubble.
