Full Description
From the 2015 draft conservation Area appraisal (Gravesham Borough Council):
"As originally built this was a simple rectangular brick box, gabled and with a slate roof.
During conversion to a house it was added-to on the east side. There are two widths of
modern side extension, increasing from front to back, with the extension’s back corner
chamfered-off against a diagonal footpath line. The new walling work is visible from the
street and is done in eye-catching alternating red and yellow stretcher bond. It is in
contrast to the original elegant brickwork of the front of the building. Even after stringent
cleaning, the front retains some of its original quality with red stretchers contrasted with
blue headers. The rubbed cut and gauged brick arches to the central door and the sash
windows to each side, survive well and the windows themselves, though modern, are
acceptable. The front door is modern and above, its frame-head and the arch tympanum
are also modern. The design of these is uninspired. The beautiful name and date plaque
over the door is a poignant reminder of other times and ways."
Former Primitive Methodist chapel at Shorne Ridgway built in 1838. It has a low gabled front of brick with arched doorway between sash windows. (1)
