Second World War air raid shelter in George V Avenue according to Thanet Gazette 10.7.15 (1).
The site of a large Second World public air raid shelter on open ground at the junction of George V Avenue and Canterbury Road visible on RAF aerial photographs -RAF/106G/UK/1378 V 5050 04-APR-1946. The shelter is earth-covered and comprises three sides of a square, probably made up of three semi-sunken units - possibly Stanton shelters. This feature was mapped as part of the Historic England Thanet Landscape Mapping Project 2024. Removed after the end of the war. (1-2).
