Full Description
During the first months of the First World War, The Grange, now Brewood School, was opened as a Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) hospital. It had 28 beds and became famous during the War as the site where a German spy was arrested while posing as a wounded Belgian soldier.(1) At one time The Grange Hospital was comprised of four buildings: The Grange (I) 28 beds, Sholden Lodge (II) 52 beds, Winchester House (III) and later the White House, London Road, Maristhorpe (IV) 60 beds, Beach Street.
