Full Description
Arthur Burr the managing director of Kent Coal Concessions Limited, who owned many of the coal mines in East Kent, preferred his workforce to live near their place of work and to this end he constructed small estates to house them which were local to their place of work during the early 1920s.
Woolage Village was a new village built on farmland near his mine at Snowdown.
The Fourth Edition Ordnance Survey map shows a triangular estate of approximately sixty homes which survive to this day. An area on the eastern boundary was set aside for a septic tank which was possibly intended for a furure sewage treatment works when the village expanded. A post office and hall were also provided on a separate site neither of which survive above ground. (1)
