During an archaeological excavation carried out on the site in 2015 a struck/waste flake and a prehistoric scraper were recovered as surface finds.
The find spot has been given two locations as information regarding which flake was found in which location was not provided in the report of the excavation when they were discovered.
The scraper is a struck flake of mixed mid/light grey flint. It has an unusually thick profile, and an extensively worked dorsal face. 10% if the dorsal face is comprised of visible scars. Crush damage to proximal end, possibly due to initial flake removal or to subsequent working of dorsal face.
Its overall shape is irregular, although approximately oblong. The tool type has therefore been estimated by the author. Using the direction of scars on dorsal face it is suggested as a possible core, although noted as unusually small. If it was a core, this could be indicative of resource or time pressures at the time of manufacture.
The struck/debitage flake is an un-retouched flake, made of medium grey flint (40% is comprised of a light grey flaw present on both dorsal and ventral surfaces).The distal end terminated partly with a feathered and partly with a step fracture (expected based on the prevalence of flaws in the flake). Given the non-utilitarian size and shape of the flake it is likely that this piece is debitage, although as it was not recovered in situ it is difficult to say this for certain. (1)
