Full Description
Second World War zig-zag trench system on 1942 aerial photograph. HLA/580 PRU1 5/6/42 photo 6 47. (1)
A slit trench of Second World War date was visible as a levelled earthwork in RAF/HLA/564 V 6014 01-JUN-1942. The complex slit trench was located in the north-east part of RAF Manston's outfield, opposite the main bomb store. There was a weapons pit at the north-west end of the slit trench, still extant at the time of this photography but recorded as a levelled earthwork in Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 07-APR-2021. These features were mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (2-3)
