TQ 75535 73896. The Second World War circular Type 25 pillbox described in authority 1 has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. It is situated near Lodge Hill Lane to the north of the perimeter of Lodge Hill Ordnance Depot (Monument 1077634). The pillbox overlooks Cooling and Cliffe Marshes from the north facing slopes of Rough Shaw, and was protected by a barbed wire enclosure placed between 42m and 50m away from the pillbox on the down hill side. This structure formed part of the in depth defences associated with the Hoo Stop Line (Monument 1542577, Monument 1542687). It was constructed very close to one of the outer banks of a First World War fieldwork or redoubt (Monument 1546098) associated with military training activity centred on Chattenden Barracks (Monument 1545088). The pillbox appeared as a standing structure on photographs taken in June 2011. (2-4)
