Full Description
This feature is recorded in the English Heritage report on the Second World War Stop Line in the Hoo Peninsula. These are described as supporting defensive features at the Cliffe quarries to south bank of River Thames. The report states: "Four concrete blocks (each 1.2m) in a square arrangement, 4.2m x 4.2m, 225m. Condition: Recorded on RAF aerial photographs taken in March 1941. Removed during post war quarrying." (1)
A group of four concrete blocks, possibly associated with the Second World War anti-invasion stop line across the Hoo Peninsula. This group of four blocks (all c.1.2m across) were seen at TQ 7125 7613 on RAF photographs taken in March 1941 set in a square arrangement 4.2m x 4.2m within the Cliffe Marshes some 225m north of a section of anti-tank ditch. The area has since been destroyed by the post-war extension of quarrying associated with the cement works at Cliffe. No other structures could be seen with these four concrete blocks. These and surrounding features were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (2)
