In February 2015 four Geoarchaeological test pits were excavated on the site of a picnic area. The area is the proposed site of a new toddler’s playground. The test pits measured approximated 1.3m by 2.2m, and each was excavated in 50mm spits. Only one of the test pits yielded archaeological material.

Two pieces of struck flint (22g) and two small unworked burnt flint fragments (32g) were recovered from test pit 2. The struck flint is in poor condition suggesting post depositional disturbance. The flint was not found in situ. The worked flint consisted of two broken flakes. One, the proximal end of which was missing, is entirely re-corticated white. The second displays traces of white discolouration and is manufactured on light brown flint with an off-white cortex. The second has a plain platform and minimal retouch and is otherwise undiagnostic.

No archaeological deposits were observed. Test pit two was the only test pit to yield any archaeological material. (1)
