CgMs Consulting undertook an historic landscape assessment of land at Hen and Duckhurst Farm, Staplehurst, Kent prior to proposed development. A number of the hedgerows were deemed 'important' as per the Hedgerow Regulations 1997. The report states: "The site contains 20 historic landscape features, of which 15 are hedgerows (primarily hawthorn and blackthorn mix with some field maple and other shrubs).
The following hedgerows are defined as important under the criteria of the Hedgerows Regulations 1997 as they conform to boundaries shown on the 1838-9 Tithe map and are substantially intact: A, E, F and O.
The following hedgerows are likely to conform to the criteria as they follow the line of boundaries on the Tithe map, although the hedgerows as they presently exist may be later replacements (although this is difficult to confirm as they follow the exact alignment as plotted on maps; they may just be radically clipped: D, G, H, K, L, O, P and S.”
[The hedgerow marked at 'H' on the map given]: "H: Mature hedgerow with western two-thirds lower and clipped, possibly a replacement". (1)
