Full Description
Isle of Thanet Isolation Hospital (aka Haine Hospital) may have been used at some time during World War 1. The hospital closed in 1986 and the buildings were demolished between 2003-07.
Founded as an isolation hospital for infectious diseases. The administration block, 4 wards and entrance features listed in 1988 (Grade II) are now de-listed. Built in stock brick with red brick details. Some features in Queen Anne style. (1)
The site of Isle of Thanet Isolation Hospital (aka Haine Hospital) centred at TR 3624 6766 has been mapped from aerial photographs asmapped as part of the Historic England: Ramsgate HAZ project. (2)
The site may may have been used at some time during World War 1. The hospital was opened in 1902 and closed in 1986 and the buildings were demolished between 2003-07. It had a number of names and functions through its life : 1902-1948 it was known variously as the Isle of Thanet Joint Isolation Hospital and Rmasgate Infectious Diseases Hospital, from 1948-1955 -Isolation Hospital, Haine (treating geriatrics and other cases). From 1955 it treated chronic and selected medical cases. The site is now occupied by Westwood Cross Shopping Precinct. (3-4)
