Full Description

Site of a small hospital founded in 1828 and much enlarged in 1869-70. Further major extensions added in 1901-4 included a children's ward and a male ward. At this time the old buildings became the administrative centre for the hospital. The General Hospital was used for 60 military patients as well as civilians at some time during World War 1. The original building has been demolished to make way for housing.
