Full Description
The work comprised a series of 9 continuous watching briefs during successive phases of topsoil stripping and subsoil removal prior to gravel extraction in an area to the west of and contiguous with Lydd 17.
18C:
"Four scatters of worked flint ([313], [314], [315] and [317]), perhaps dating to the Bronze Age were recorded on the surface of the gravel." (1)
""33 pieces of struck flint (weighing 1343g) were recovered… The flint assemblage consists principally of unretouched pieces or retouched material which is not closely datable. Nonetheless, based on technological grounds, the flintwork forms a relatively coherent assemblage suggesting human activities from at least the Middle Bronze Age, with the possibility that manufacture of flint continued into the Iron Age."
