Full Description
A building assessment was carried out in the warehouses on Cambridge Road in 1996 and again in 1997 ahead of proposals to convert them into retail outlets.
Taken from the source (1997): Building 12 has been butted onto the south western side of building 11 at a later date and consists of a yellow stock brick (Flemish bond) structure with a corrugated asbestos roof. As with building 11, it did not extend up to Cambridge Road, but again backed onto the concrete yard. Internally, the structure measured 11m by 14m. Although of 19th century date, it seems clear that building 12, along with building 13 is later than building 11. The building is not shown on the 1861 map and must be later. It appears to be contemporary with building 13 and has been deliberately constructed across an originally open boat slip way which seems to have remained in use subsequently. The Goad insurance map of 1905 shows the building. Then a carpenters shop and store forming part of the South Eastern Chatham Railways maintenance yard, whilst the 1929 edition of Goad marks it specifically as a shipwrights, still within the railway company's complex.
