Full Description
During the excavation of trench 13 as part of an archaeological evaluation on land off Cottington Road, Cliffsend, a particularly large feature which extended beyond the limits of the trenchwas identified. The trench was extended to ascertain the width of the feature. Measuring 34m+ in length 6.3m in width and 1.5m+ in depth this north east to south west orientated feature has been interpreted as a quarry pit; large amounts of Romano-British pottery was recovered from this feature. It was cut by north west to south east orientated ditch, which was in turn cut by a pit. Romano-British pottery, burnt flint and struck flint were also recovered from these features.
