Monument record TR 34 SW 1352 - Post Medieval demolition debris from the former site of Snargate Street and Last Lane, Dover
Summary
A watching brief was undertaken on trenches for a major new water pipeline for Dover, this included an area from the south wall of the Classis Britannica fort, to the York/Snargate Street Roundabout. The entire section of the pipeline cut through demolition debris derived from c. 18th-19th century houses in the former Last Lane/Snargate Street area. Beneath this debris was a deposit of chalk rubble, which appeared to form a part of the road bed. (Location accurate to the nearest 5m based of available information).
