Full Description
During a watching brief undertaken at the former site of 137 Snargate Street a number of subterranean vaulted structures, cellars and walling was uncovered, all of which date to the later post medieval period. The features were recovered at depth of between 20cm and 50cm and continued down to the maximum depth of the trenching (1.2m). Most of the features/structures were brick built of yellow stock brick but there was also a chalk block built structure in the northern trench, bonded with a mid-grey firm mortar. Two vaulted structures were uncovered during the watching brief, one in the northern trench and one in the southern both were brick built and were likely once part of a cellar. (1)
