Full Description
An evaluation prior to the redevelopment of the Town Yard site was undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust. The evaluation revealed a number of features once associated with the railway station which was situated at this site, these included two brick built, barrel vaulted drains, located in Trenches 3 and 4. These drains were probably associated with a larger sewer that was also located at the site and which runs parallel at 2.3m south of a wall footing which relates to a large railway shed or terminus building. The original internal diameter of this sewer would have been approximately 0.9m. The smaller drains probably joined this sewer at right angles and together, fairly certainly formed part of the drainage complex associated with the original railway station. (1)
