During an archaeological evaluation undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust, ahead of the development of the Royal Victoria Hospital, Dover, a number of archaeologically significant features and layers were uncovered. In Trench 3, below levels containing later Medieval material, a series of cream brown clay with chalk layers were revealed. These included some struck flints and a piece of Prehistoric pottery.
