Summary

During the monitored excavation of a site at Burch Road, Northfleet, Gravesend, Kent. A number of structures were revealed. The earliest being the foundations of the Pier entrance to Rosherville Pleasure Gardens which were built in 1837.

Full Description

During the monitored excavation of a site at Burch Road, Northfleet, Gravesend, Kent a number of structures were revealed. The earliest being the foundations of the Pier entrance to Rosherville Pleasure Gardens which were built in 1837.

Late Post-Medieval pottery, glass and CBM were found: "The artefacts recovered comprised pottery, glass and ceramic building material, with some tankard sherds embossed with ‘Rosherville Gardens’".

Three salt-glazed English stoneware tankards with ‘Rosherville Gardens’ embossed on their sides and some 19th century clay pipe stems were found in context 19.

"On the 23rd March 2015 a watching brief was maintained during the in-situ preservation of the foundations of the two sides of the entrance to Rosherville Gardens." (1)
