Full Description

The remains of a Second World War rectractable Pickett-Hamilton fort exists c. 120 m north-west of the Highland Garage and depot on the A249. It originally formed part of the defences of Detling Airfield and is slightly visible on 2012 aerial photography. (1)

A 2024 survey of the site decribed it as "Pickett Hamilton Retractable Fort. Former Detling Airfield site, in field between Kent Showground and Industrial Estate. Concrete construction, set into the ground with metal trap door. In good condition from what could be observed, however unable to open the hatch. " (1)
