During excavations undertaken in Dover town centre by Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit, a Roman military bath house was excavated and recorded. In the third period of the bath houses development a large cold bath was inserted into room 7, cutting through the tiled floor and underlying hypocaust. It measured 2.95m (E-W) by 2.16m (N-S) and was a maximum depth of 95cm deep. The floor was capped with tile and walls rendered with opus signinum. This bath was subsequently infilled during the fourth phase of development in this room, which changes its use to some kind of domestic function. (1)
