Monument record TR 34 SW 1586 - Underground Roman well, associated with the Classis Britnnica Fort II, Dover

Summary

During a series of rescue excavations undertaken by Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit in Dover Town centre, a substantial underground Roman well which was located within the walls of, and would have served, the Classis Britannica fort, was excavated and recorded. Three main elements of the well were identified, including a staircase, walls and the well shaft itself. (location accurate to the nearest 2m based on available information).
