Full Description
A Phase 2 geoarchaeological evaluation carried out in 1992 identified well preserved but undated environmental evidence. The evidence consisted of wood, nuts, plant stem tissue and moss. Reworked tertiary fossils and insect remains were also abundant. The organic preservation is high in the basal gravels and silts recorded across the profile in trench A. Within the sandy silts towards the top of the profile localised occurences of charcoal were noted, indicating evidence of human activity.
The geological sequence consisted of well stratified sandy silts and silts overlying gravels and organic silts at the base of the Sarre Penn valley. (1,2)
