During extensive rescue excavations undertaken across Dovers Town centre by Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit, substantial remains of the Classis Britannica fort were uncovered and recorded. On the north west side of the fort between the inside face of the fort wall and the west granary, evidence of a perimeter road, known as a intervallum road, was located during excavation of a small area at Durham Hill.

The area occupied by the road had been extensively levelled to offset the slope of the hill. The metalled surface of the road, which consists of small pebbles, appears to extend west of the western wall of the granary for a distance of at least 6.5m. The road appears to have been abandoned by period three of the CLBR for as a barrack block was constructed over it. (1)
