Monument record TR 34 SW 1598 - Part of the CLBR fort II wall (B7), located at the B.M.W. Site, Dover

Summary

During extensive rescue excavations undertaken across Dovers Town centre by Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit, substantial remains of the Classis Britannica fort were uncovered and recorded. Sections of all four walls of the fort were located, including a length of the east wall which was discovered under the deep cellars of the demolished Warren and Reynolds Warehouse, on the north side of Queen Street (B.M.W. site), in 1974. This walling was located close to the east gatehouse of the Classis Britannica Fort and shows the wall continuing northwards from it. (location accurate to the nearest 2m based on available information).
