Monument record TR 34 SW 1636 - Altar base in room 2 of Barrack block (B24) of the CLBR fort II, located at the Battle of Britain Homes site, Dover.

Summary

During extensive rescue excavations undertaken across Dover’s Town centre by Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit, the southern end of a substantial structure representing a barrack block (B24) was located at the Battle of Britain Homes site in 1971. Within room two of this structure was a small rectangular altar base abutting the north wall. It was constructed of chalk blocks with a core of pebbles and measured 1.06m by 33cm, surviving to a height of 40cm. (location accurate to the nearest 2m based on available information)
