Full Description
Excavations in advance of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link in 2002-3 identifiedwhat may have been a road-side shrine in the junction of Watling Street and a branch road. The shrine consisted of a rectangular arrangement of chalk footings c 3.3m x 2.6m. There was no structure apparent but the chalk edges were clearly defined. 17 coins were found within the shrine spanning AD 260-402. These seemed to represent deliberate deposition.(1)
