Full Description

A round barrow was visible on aerial photographs and was subsequently excavated at Lord of the Manor near Ozengell. It is one of the Lord of the Manor barrow group. The barrow is cut by the Haine Road and on excavation produced what is for Kent a fairly rare incense or 'slotted' cup.

The site was excavated by the Thanet Archaeological Unit from 1976 to 1982.

Description from record TR 36 NE 718:
Part of a possible Bronze Age round barrow and an elongated pit which may be an Anglo Saxon (early
medieval) grave are visible as cropmarks on air photographs. The possible grave lies to the south-east
of the ring ditch and may be an outlier of the extensive cemetery to the south. The round barrow, presenting as an incomplete ring ditch, lies at a slight bend on Haine Road. The road appears to have truncated the western side of the ring ditch. (1)
