Full Description
The 1919 Chatham Land Front Map, WO78/4431, shows a square pillbox in this position, alongside A2 almost opposite Rook Lane. Scrub woodland, alongside the A2 road, Keycol Hill (2). It is a standard WWI square pillbox of the same pattern as the other 5 in the area.
Trees are growing very close to the site, in places seeming to grow from under its base. It has one embrasure 52 inches long, facing South East. To its rear, North West, there is what seems to be a small trench, estimated to be about 1.5 meters long by 0.75 meters wide. This may be what is left on the MGE shown in WO78/4431 or possibly a WWII slit trench on the same spot.
The pillbox is in very good condition considering how overgrown it is. - 17-03-2013 (1)
