Full Description
Marked on The Chatham Land Front Map as the site of two 6 inch Naval Guns and Would have consisted of circular firing platforms for two 6 inch Naval Gun on Field Carriages possibly plus dug-out, shelters etc for personnel and ammunition and equipment (2).
The Chatham Land Front Map states that the ammunition allocation for these Naval 6 inch guns used for Home Defence was 250 rounds per gun, of which 50 were shrapnel shells( 2).
A prepared 6 inch Naval Gun Battery, which consisted of two 6 inch Naval Guns on concrete bases. Only one base remains and can just be seen from Warren Lane two or three meters into the field and about 50 meters from the M2. It is roughly circular and is covered in moss; it measures approximately 4 meters in diameter. A few meters away is a rectiliner area covered in moss which may be hard standing or a building base associated with the gun position.
It is believed that the other gun position was destroyed in the construction of the M2
