Full Description
A Type 22 Hexagonal Pillbox
A Second World War pillbox still exists on the west side of Bimbury Lane, Stockbury. This was presumably part of the defences of Detling Airfield and formed one of a number of pillboxes and other defences in the Detling/Stockbury area. The condition of the pillbox is unknown. (1)
A 2024 survey described the structure as "Pill Box Type 22 LAA Variant. Former RAF Detling side of Bimbury Lane, North of farm buildings. Concrete construction, six sided, with machine gun embrasures. Embrasures open, but has suffered some significant damage. Fair to poor overall condition, covered in ivy also rubbish filled." (2)
