Full Description
It is believed that this building was not the only one used for this Brigade HQ, the 1914 war establishment for an infantry Brigade was 39 officers and men of all ranks in total. Together with horse and motor transport several more buildings would have been needed, which may explain why the map shows the HQ on empty ground effectively between Yelsted Farm and Guildsted Court.
The occupiers of Guildsted Court stated that there was no sign of strengthening works in that house and recommended that I ask at Yelsted Farm. There Mr Sumner and his mother, as well as giving the information on Guildsted Lodge in the site visit report, both commented on the concrete floor of a farm building which was demolished a few years ago both believing that it was unlike any other on the farm being far too thick and strong for a farm building. This may indicate that one or more of Yelsted Farm's buildings were used or were intended to be used by the HQ. This may though date to WWII as both mentioned concrete bases etc., dating from this period in nearby orchards (none of these later have yet been seen on Google or the 1940's aerial photos, although there are a couple of tracks going nowhere on the latter.
