Full Description

During a watching brief undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust on foundation trenches off High Street Dover, a grey silty clay deposit with small lumps was discovered, this deposit produced a few sherds of sandy Medieval pottery. This has been tentatively dated to the 13th-14th century. Broadly similar silt deposits have been discovered at a number of other valley bottom sites in Dover and these have generally been considered to have been water laid. (1)
