A number of post medieval remains were uncovered during an archaeological evaluation comprising two trenches undertaken ahead of development off High Street, Dover. The remains uncovered in trench 1 included; 19th century brick built wall footings which relate to the south west corner of a former building at the site, a brick built cellar 1.36m deep, again of probable 19th century date and a drainage pit or soakaway 1m in diameter in the south west edge of the trench, and was filled with a loose yellow sandy mortar. Within trench 2 a brick lined 1.5m square cess pit with chalk foundations was identified, it was filled with brick and flint nodules as well as post medieval pottery and building material. A further wall footing was also encountered in trench 2, the footing was of flint and was within a foundation trench which ran parallel to the High Street and indicated a former building at the site.

Numerous finds of a post medieval date were also located in association with these features; they include four fragments of clay pipe, a fragment of an un-frogged brick, 8 sherds of 19th/20th century pottery and two fragments of iron slag. (1)
