Full Description
(summarised from source) Pottery of an Anglo Saxon date was recovered during an archaeological excavation undertaken ahead of development at the former site of the Post Office at Biggin Street, Dover. No securely datable Anglo Saxon features were located at the site; the sherds were intrusive/residual and were recovered from the top fill of a Roman ditch within trench 6 and a cultivation soil within trench 11. Eight were recovered in total; these were all late Saxon sparse chalk tempered ware sherds datable to the eighth century. (1)
