Full Description
One large handaxe and 13 pieces of flint debitage were found on a freshly stripped surface cut into the major reddish-brown brickearth deposit c. 150m to N of the elephant site [TQ 67 SW 470] (1 - Ch 21, pp 440-442). The handaxe was in fresh condition and was a large sub-cordate with a rounded tip. One face was stained brown, suggesting prolonged exposure with one side face-up on a palaeo-landsurface (1 - p 40, Fig. 3.10). The debitage was also mostly in fresh condition.
