Full Description
Underground ROC post for monitoring nuclear explosions and fallout built in 1961 and abandonded sometime later in the 1960's due to unstable ground. The post was located further inlandin 1968. Externally the post is in good condition but the interior was not seen as the hatch has been welded shut.(1)
A Royal Observer Corps Listening Post is visible as structures on aerial photographs. The post was built in 1961 as a warning and monitoring post in the context of a nuclear war. The site is centred on TR 24106 36597 and comprises an underground bunker. Two concrete structures and a ventilation shaft are visible as surface features. This site has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey NMP (Component 2) (2)
