Full Description

A watching brief on groundworks prior to house construction recorded compacted late 19th century rubbish across the entire site to a depth of 1.1m. The site lies adjacent to Westcourt Marshes and peaty deposits below the rubbish layer suggest it was also once marshland. The Victorians dumped town rubbish over it during town expansion when building land was being reclaimed from the marshes. It was later levelled for building Waterton Avenue and neighbouring streets.
