Maritime record TR 06 SW 1003 - Gunpowder punt at Bennett Mills, Faversham Gunpowder Works

Summary

A wooden punt was excavated from the mill pond at Bennetts Mills at Faversham Gunpowder Works. The punt was found by probing in the pond, which is the most north easterly pond before the water enters the sluice into Faversham Creek. The punt is 3.7m long, 1.33m wide and 0.33m deep. Its flat and square construction suggests that it was built from good quality materials, but by a works carpenter who lacked shipwright skills. There are at least two other punts sunk in the mud in this area.
