Monument record TQ 86 NW 1013 - Mesolithic/Neolithic remains at Motney Hill, East Rainham, Gillingham
Summary
Worked Mesolithic/early Neolithic flints and fragmentary remains of a probable later Neolithic vessel. Other finds included a small piece of wood with metal tooling marks plus large wood fragments, including one piece of tree in-situ. The finds confirm that the Woolwich Beds sands were used as a terrestrial surface through the Mesolithic and into the eolithic prior to inundation. Subseqeunt stabilisations were represented by peat horizons.
