Monument record TR 06 NW 1002 - Possible beacon site/medieval pot found, Harty, Isle of Sheppey

Summary

In 1998 some lumps of Kentish ragstone were found in a field in Harty, where a beacon is shown on early maps. A quantity of coal and charcoal was also found. Six late-medieval earthenware pottery sherds were also discovered, including a jug-handle and a jar rim. They probably date from around 1475-1550.

Full Description

Fieldwalking in 1998 located lumps of Kentish ragstone littering the field where early maps show a beacon. Coal and charcoal in some quantity. Six pottery sherds - late medieval earthenware c1475-1550 including stabbed handle from large jug and jar rim (1).
