Monument record TQ 87 SW 1053 - Possible enclosure, by Kingsnorth Power Station, Hoo St. Werburgh

Summary

The incomplete earthwork remains of a possible post medieval enclosure can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1946. This enclosure is defined by a bank and may have been constructed when the area was saltings. By 1946 the remains were incomplete, the southern side destroyed in the construction of the delph that follows the seawall facing Damhead Creek. This incomplete enclosure enclosed an area circa 15m by 9m. This earthwork, which has subsequently been levelled, was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. It is thought that this enclosure may now be buried under ash mounds.
