The earthwork remains of a possible post medieval livestock enclosure on Stoke Saltings can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 2007. This enclosure is defined by an earthwork mound and the remains of an encircling ditch and is depicted on an 1887 Ordnance Survey map. It measures approximately 40m by 30m and could be accessed via a causeway that led across the saltings (see NMR 1540799). Grazing on the saltings must have largely been abandoned by 1896 by which time a considerable area of saltings had been removed (the mud was used in the manufacture of Portland cement). This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
